The early high rank glaive I used was the insect tree one.Testing in the training area, Tetraseal will do more damage with its 4 hits compared to Tornado with its 2 hits. However, Tetraseal lasts longer, while Tornado hits wider and is quicker. So one is not better than the other. They are sidegrades of each other.
